Russell Simmons calls Kanye West a genius via Global Grind
While Kanye West has apparently gone off to the deep end, he probably feels as though the world is against him, everyone except Kim of course, but that may not necessarily be true. Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons recently stepped in to defend the Chi-Town rapper.
Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam, wrote an op-ed titled, "The Genius That Is Kanye West," on Global Grind.
Simmons went on to say that he feels West is misunderstood and believes West "desperately wants to leave his imprint in the history books."
In his post, Simmons said:
"What's often times misunderstood about Kanye is that people believe he wants all of this for himself, in fact, quite the opposite, he wants all of this for the rest of us. Certainly he wants a piece for himself...everybody would, but at his core, at the bottom of his heart, lies an inner-truth that has led to an external battle to make this world a bit easier for those who have been dealt a hand of struggle, by showing them a glimmer of hope through his art."
Simmons somewhat praised the G.O.O.D Music rapper for his selflessness. He believes West's rants are simply outburst of passion and not anger, as everyone assumes it to be.
"He feels it. He tastes it. And he so badly wants it like mad. So, you may think he's mad when he goes on his 'Yeezy rants,' but it is a different kind of mad," Simmons wrote.
West took to Twitter to thank Simmons for his kind words.
