Spike Lee wants to take 'Do The Right Thing' to Broadway

In a recent interview with Vulture, Spike Lee gave his fans something special to look forward to. The film director-producer-actor announced that he plans to take his film Do The Right Thing to Broadway.  

The controversial film Do The Right Thing was released in 1989. The film depicts the racial tensions going on in Brooklyn, New York.  The film is referenced as one of the most accurate depictions of racism in America.

Lee played the role of "Mookie" in the film. Do The Right Thing also starred Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Samuel L. Jackson, Rosie Perez and Ruby Dee. Lee says that the film, which he penned in 10 days, "took the world by storm."

When asked by Vulture when Do The Right Thing would be coming to Broadway, Lee had this to say:

"I'm working on it now, so hopefully it'll come to fruition. We're in serious talks, but it's still very early. I think it'll take about a year. I'm not going to put a date on it, but it's not going to be "years" with a "s" on it."

Lee earned Oscar nominations for directing Do the Right Thing and 4 Little Girls. Lee's films include When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, Inside Man, 25th Hour, He Got Game, Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Bamboozled and Jungle Fever. In 2009, he also filmed the Broadway production of the musical Passing Strange.

Lee first announced that he was interested in taking Do The Right Thing to Broadway last month.
