George Zimmerman will not be charged in case against ex-girlfriend
George Zimmerman is probably the luckiest man in the world. The former neighborhood watchman has escaped the grip of the law once again.
According to CNN, Zimmerman will not face charges for the domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend last month. State Attorney Phil Archer says that the decision not to pursue the case comes after Zimmerman's girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, backed out of pressing charges.
In a written statement, Archer said:
"Upon reviewing the recent affidavit of the Ms. Scheibe and taking into account the conflicting statements about what occurred, the failure to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and a lack of any other corroborating evidence or witnesses, there is no reasonable likelihood of successful prosecution."
And of course Zimmerman and his attorney were pleased with the move. Zimmerman's attorney noted that this incident "demonstrates how great our system is" in a written statement.
Zimmerman was arrested on November 18 at Scheibe's Apopka, Florida, home after the two were engaged in a heated fight.
As for Scheibe, here's what she had to say:
"I believe that the police misinterpreted me and that I may have misspoken about certain facts in my statement to the police. I do not feel that the arrest report accurately recounts what happened."
But as we all know, this isn't George Zimmerman's first run in with the law. Early this summer, Zimmerman was found not guilty in the murder of teen Trayvon Martin. He was also involved in a dispute with his estranged wife a few months back. Charges were dropped in that incident a well.
