The X Factor USA 2013 loses in ratings battle with NBC's 'The Sing-Off'
Simon Cowell's reality singing competition The X Factor aired its semifinal results show on Thursday night after possibly its strongest performance show of the season on Wednesday. But apparently none of that translated to ratings.
NBC's ratings juggernaut, The Voice, routinely outperforms The X Factor in the ratings (and that's being generous) but now NBC's OTHER singing show, The Sing-Off, can claim that it has bested Simon Cowell's program.
Neither show performed particularly well, but NBC's a capella singing competition earned the win on Thursday night in the adults 18-49 demographic, though The X Factor held the lead in total viewers. The Sing-Off received a 1.4 demo rating, while The X Factor had just a 1.2 rating. The X Factor had 4.888 million viewers, while The Sing Off had 4.528 million viewers.
CBS' hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory easily won the night with a 5.3 demo rating and 18.552 million viewers to smash all the other network shows on Thursday night. The second most-watched show was CBS' The Millers, which aired right after The Big Bang Theory and hauled in 12.04 million viewers and a 2.9 demo rating. ABC's Scandal earned the second-highest demo rating at 3.2 and earned 9.329 million viewers.
The X Factor has struggled in the ratings throughout Season 3 and there has even been talk of Fox canceling the show instead of bringing it back for Season 4. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, and the show can still go out on a high note this season when the final two episodes air next week.
