Not only is it Black History month, but it is great when celebrities acknowledge history. Legendary singer, Gladys Knight is turning a negative into a positive by saving a North Carolina landmark.

According to the Michigan Chronicle  Knight along with her husband, Billy McDowell are taking $2 million of their own funds and restoring a segregation era all-Black school that stems back to her family.

The school will be turned into a recreation center for youth in the community. Knight's husband, Billy, was interested in the school after learning that Billy's mother worked as a janitor there until the school was closed due to the integration of Canton, North Carolina schools.

The singer hopes that the buildings history will continue to stay alive as it becomes a new recreation center.

The couple already spent $85,000 to buy the building and are currently raising funds to pay for the upgrades. The estimated total cost is $2 millon.
