Alan Taylor, who helmed Thor: The Dark World, will direct the highly anticipated 2015 sequel Terminator Genesis aka Terminator 5. Much of the major casting has already been completed, but the role of Kyle Reese remained unfilled until now.

Variety reports that Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard, Jack Reacher) has landed the role in the reboot. Deadline previously reported that and Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl, Jane Got A Gun) were vying for the part. And according to the report, this role could be crucial to the series as a whole.

"It's a big job, as it figures to span at least two movies that will end the story of Skynet's battle with the resistance that began with [James] Cameron's two films with two more that followed."

Courtney would join Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is set to reprise his role as the titular machine, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sarah Connor and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as John Connor.

As for the plot, Screen Rant reported a few months ago the rumor that the Terminator movie reboot could change a crucial plot point from James Cameron's original 1984 classic. Rumor has it that Taylor's new film will have Schwarzenegger's killer cyborg actually serve as young Sarah Connor's protector. In the original movie, he tries to kill her to prevent John Connor from being born.
