Sebastian Stan talks 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and his nine-picture deal with Marvel

Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as the titular villain, who somehow survived his "death" in Captain America: The First Avenger and made it to the present day to cause problems for Cap.

Stan recently sat down for an interview with Newsarama, which asked the actor if he knew he would eventually play The Winter Soldier when he got the role of Bucky Barnes in the first Captain America movie.

"I did, and I didn't. It was a 'maybe.' It led me to prepare myself for this just in case, but I'm not the guy who gets to shoot the movies. When we wrapped, I had no idea if we'd be back. A lot of that has to do with fan response, the public response. But I did really hope that I'd be back to play this character again."

The more interesting comment came when Newsarama asked him if his Marvel deal would allow him to appear in other projects. Stan said the Marvel deal provides him with great job security, but also said, "Yes[...] I think I have nine."

It seems odd that Stan would have a nine-picture deal with Marvel because even the highest-profile actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Robert Downey Jr., have appeared in five movies at most. Would the Winter Soldier as a character really stick around through seven more movies (which would could extend through the 2020s)?
