'Hannibal' season 3: Creator Bryan Fuller 'very confident' NBC will renew horror series after 2014 episodes

There have been a number of series renewals and cancellations so far this spring, but one intriguing show has yet to get either good or bad news this year. NBC's psychological thriller-horror program, Hannibal, has reportedly been on the cancellation cusp this year, but series creator Bryan Fuller revealed this week that he's "very confident" he'll get a third season.

We should also mention that Hannibal's first season received mixed ratings, but huge critical acclaim, which led NBC to break stride and renew it for season two based on merit. Apparently, this year's renewal could be based on the same factors.

"I hear very positive things," Fuller revealed, according to Digital Spy. "All of the creatives at NBC are so supportive of the show and want it back, and the schedules and salespeople are like, 'It's a new show, get rid of it'. We are banking on the creative people winning out over the salespeople."

Hannibal has some of the most graphic imagery on network TV, so its great to hear NBC is behind the show creatively.

"The ratings are not anything to jump up and down about, but the critical acclaim is great, and we're sort of a prestige project for the network, so we're hoping that's enough, like it was last year," Fuller said. "There have been indications that it will be."

Fuller also admitted that he and his crew aren't getting too confident because anything could happen. In fact, he teases other ways to produce a third season even if the show gets canceled.

"The confidence hasn't stopped us from seeking out backup plans that would get us a third season one way or another. There are many more options than there have been in the past. So I feel very confident about a season three."

He added: "We end season two in such a strange way - boy, I would be pissed [if that were the end]! We don't quite land the plane, we leave the plane in the air."
