Original 'X-Men' cast could return after 2016 'Apocalypse' movie
The 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse will serve as a sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past, which hits theaters on May 23. The movie will follow the First Class incarnations of the mutants, but two of the film's producers revealed in a recent interview that Hugh Jackman and his crew could return in future incarnations.
Lauren Shuler-Donner, who has produced every X-Men movie thus far, and Hutch Parker told HitFix that the original X-Men group could be back after Apocalypse. Furthermore, Shuler-Donner said the studio has solid plans to add solo movies to the X-Men film universe when she said they want to do "definitely some solo efforts. I hope to see us do Gambit, Deadpool will eventually punch his way to the screen, I think."
In related news, Patrick Stewart, who plays the older Charles Xavier in Days of Future Past, spoke to MTV and was optimistic about the possibility of older Charles' return to the franchise in Apocalypse.
"I don't see why not," he said. "That is one of the blessings about fantasy and science fiction. You're never really dead. I would love to come back and do some more."
He went on to say, "There might be something else. A little bird has whispered that there might be something X-Men related."
Fox has more X-Men movies in the pipeline, up to an untitled project scheduled for release on July 18, 2018. Could Stewart and some of the other original actors appear in this movie?
