If you're at all familiar with the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones, you are most likely aware of the fact that nobody is safe. Main characters dying off in horrible ways is commonplace, so when the creator of the series, author George R.R. Martin, appeared on Conan this week the host asked him about all of the deaths. It turns out Martin takes it easy on his characters in the books!

"I think that it's a good thing that I wrote the books before we started making the show," Martin explained. "Because when you make the show and you actually meet the actors then it's harder to kill them."

The author says he didn't have to worry about the actors playing the parts being out of a job after the deaths. Conan than jokes about the show having to catch up to the books in terms of deaths, but Martin reveals the show creators are more bloodthirsty that he is!

"To be fair, David Benioff and Dan Weiss who are the showrunners - they're killing characters that are still alive in the books. So as bloody as I am, David and Dan are always turning things up to eleven. So really no one is safe."

He added that book readers are even in for unpleasant surprises in terms of characters still alive in the books.
