Ryan Murphy Teases New Season Of 'American Horror Story: Freak Show,' Sarah Paulson Will Play 'Most Challenging Character He's Ever Created'

Get ready for the return of Lana Winters, and the Supreme because American Horror Story is almost here.

Ryan Murphy, while on the road promoting his new film for HBO The Normal Heart, talked to Entertainment Weekly Radio and gave some scoop on the upcoming season of American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The creator of the series describes the new season as a "Super scary thrill ride."

He told the entertainment news site in an interview last week, that when he started the project, he was thinking it would be more light-hearted like Coven, but now that he is in the process of filming he says it has started to take a dark and twisted turn more like Asylum.

Murphy says "I'm so excited for Freak Show."

He gives a brief synopsis of what the series will be about saying that it's "about something. It's about a group of people... who are the last existing freak show in America."

The season will take place in Jupiter, Florida and with include a troupe of freak show performers who are "desperate to stay together."

As for who will be returning, the series has enlisted alumnus Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett, and Kathy Bates.  

Paulson who has played some of the most iconic character in the past seasons of the series will be back to play, what Murphy says is the most challenging character I've ever created. I'm nervous for Sarah." And he should be nervous because according to him the character as to endure "physical rigors" that are sure to test the actresses abilities.

The new season will premiere this fall on FX.
