'Community' Cancelled [UPDATE]: Dan Harmon Series Returns On Hulu?
We recently learned that NBC pulled the plug on its fan-favorite comedy series Community after just five seasons. This ended the mantra that fans and creator Dan Harmon adopted, "Six Seasons and a Movie," but a new rumor may help bring the show and this slogan back to life. Hulu, which has always done a great job promoting the show, could resurrect the recently canceled show!
InsideTV reports:
Hulu is a logical destination for the show, as it already owns the exclusive digital rights to the Community's first five seasons. (The off-network rights belong to Comedy Central.) The streaming service is committed to expanding its original programming, which currently includes shows like The Awesomes, Deadbeat and East Los High, as well as Casey Wilson's upcoming Real Housewives parody The Hotwives of Orlando, but original episodes of Communitywould put HuluPlus - with its six million subscribers - on the map in a bigger way, much like the revival of Arrested Development did for Netflix.
Harmon has already addressed these rumors about Hulu working with Sony Pictures TV for a sixth season of Community.
"I'm not going to be the guy who recancels cancelled Community," he wrote on his blog. "There are lots of reasons a Community resurrection could be difficult. So be prepared for that."
If this rumor is true, fans would surely rejoice at the fact that they can start chanting that mantra once again, and even get the show's 100th episode out of the deal as well (it ended at 97!).
