For its seventh and final season, True Blood returned from its hiatus and got the ball rolling with a shocking death scene. Twitter was ablaze with everyone reacting to the opening twist that no one saw coming.

In our recap, we reported on what happened in the opening scene. During the H-Vamp attack, bloodsuckers were slaughtered and humans were kidnapped. Both sides were on the losing streak, even when Sookie (Anna Paquin) used her faery powers and Alcide (Joe Manganiello) turned to a menacing wolf.

To save her mother, Lettie Mae, Tara (Rutina Wesley) ends up fighting one of the infected H-vamps. At first, Tara seems to have the upper-hand. After a loud whistle is blown and the H-Vamps suddenly retreat, Lettie screams in horror as she is soaked in her own daughter's blood.

Tara, who has been around since the HBO show began, is the first victim of the final season. The Twitter-verse reacts to the death of their fan-favorite characters.

If you notice in the comments, no one really thinks Lettie Mae is a reliable source. She is a recovering alcoholic who was under a lot of stress. [Spoilers] It was a cutaway too. We didn't actually see Tara die in the bloodbath. [End Spoilers]

Plus if Tara did die, then wouldn't her maker, Pam [Kristen Bauer van Straten] have felt her painful death? There's a slight possibility Tara isn't dead at all.

True Blood continues on Sundays on HBO at 9PM. Readers, what are your thoughts on Tara's "death" scene?
