Defending Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray Knocked Out In Straight Sets By Grigor Dimitrov
This year's Wimbledon has most certainly been the year of the underdog, and it's been full of shocks. Just as we think we've seen the latest one, another star seems to bite the dust. It doesn't get much bigger than this. After winning Wimbledon last year, Andy Murray was hoping to defend his crown in front of his home fans once again. Despite a good start to the tournament, it went horribly wrong in his quarter-final match-up against Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.
Murray never seemed interested, starting slow, and never breaking his bad form as he fell to a 6-1 7-6 6-2 loss. The match lasted two hours and one minute, meaning the Bulgarian would now reach his first semi-final. To lose was one thing, but to lose so quickly and easily will break Andy's heart. The British star made no excuses, as he explained "My start to the match was poor. I started the match badly and I think that gave him confidence. I should have done a better job at the beginning of the match of making it tougher for him, and I didn't manage to do that. Also, when I got back into the second set, that was my opportunity there."
Will there be any more upsets in this tennis tournament, or have we seen all the surprises already? While the 2014 World Cup is receiving most of the sporting spotlight, Wimbledon is quietly enjoying its best ever tournament.
