Lois Lowry paved the way for young adult fiction stories like The Hunger Games and Twilight, so its great to see that her book The Giver has received a movie adaptation, with a release date set for August 15, 2014. In a new interview with MTV News, the acclaimed author got the chance to talk about her involvement in the film and how her grandchildren enjoyed Taylor Swift's small, but "crucial and very important" role!

Speaking with MTV News, clearly the fact that Taylor Swift is in the movie comes up. Those of us familiar with the story know that her role of Rosemary is a small, but important one, but those unfamiliar could be disappointed with her screen time. Lowry explains that Rosemary is one of the most important characters in the book and that Taylor's movie role is just as crucial.

"The role in the movie is still a small role, but it's a crucial and very important one," the author said. "So her role in the movie is much the same in the book, except in the book she's only remembered... And in the movie you can see the memory of her. She appears in, I don't know the technical term would be, but you can see her. And it's very compelling."

Lowry also explained that Taylor does not sing in the movie, because she feels it would have made it more of a musical - which The Giver certainly is not!
