Is Doomsday in Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice?

The news and rumors regarding Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to flow, and the latest rumor is a juicy one that could have major implications on the franchise's future. Or, as many of these rumors do, it could amount to nothing.

The film is already filling up with characters and rumored cameos as Warner Bros. and DC build toward Justice League, but Bleeding Cool now reports "sources who have been rather reliable in the past" have seen character designs for Doomsday. In the comics, Doomsday is the hulking creature that killed Superman in the iconic The Death of Superman.

But Bleeding Cool cautions that this rumor could simply fizzle as production continues.

"Now, of course, much can change in the production process. This may be used purely for flashback purposes on the screen, looking at the life (and death) of Superman. It may be purely for promotional efforts to accompany the film. Or it may not make it to the final cut."

It would be an extremely odd twist to kill Superman in this movie because of the upcoming Justice League film, but we suppose anything is possible. And as Bleeding Cool pointed out, Doomsday might not even be in the movie, so this could all be for naught. If the creature does make the cut, though, it could set up an interesting and powerful foe for Superman and his friends to tackle in future movies.
