'Fargo' Season 2 - FX Confirms New Episodes With All New Characters After 18 Emmy Nominations, Calls Out HBO's 'True Detective'

After a critically acclaimed first season, FX has ordered 10 new episodes of the surreal, violent crime drama Fargo. This time around, we won't be seeing any familiar faces because season two will feature a whole new cast in an entirely different setting!

Series creator Noah Hawley will return as head writer for the 10-episode second season, which Entertainment Weekly says will "feature an all-new cast, a different time period setting and have a new 'true crime' story that will unfold across 10 episodes."

In other words, True Detective but not on HBO. To be fair, season one of Fargo was just as compelling as True Detective according to reviews and Emmy nominations!

"We could not be more proud of Fargo. Noah's audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations-the most for a single program in our history," said CEO of FX Networks, John Landgraf. "Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next installment."

We just compared Fargo to True Detective above, but Landgraf points out the differences between the shows.

"I think True Detective is going to have to prove it's not just a vehicle for movie stars [next season]," he said. "[True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto] is going to have to write something truly great every single year. I think Noah has already proven he can write something really great ... I think we needed Billy Bob [Thornton] [to launch the show] but we don't need somebody next year. Frankly, I think we can do it with unknowns - [newcomer] Allison Tolman brought as much to Fargo as Billy Bob."
