Disney's takeover of Lucasfilm has resulted in a great amount of new Star Wars movies being announced, including standalone spin offs from great, young directors like Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank. While the former has his film set for a 2016 release date, Trank has a bit more time and could be working with Fantastic Four collaborator and Star Wars writer Simon Kinberg. In fact, Kinberg recently revealed that he got Trank the directing job with Disney!

While speaking with Slash Film about his work on the animated DisneyXD series, Star Wars Rebels, Kinberg revealed he helped with this particular hiring.

"I spoke very highly of Josh to the Lucasfilm guys. They were interested in him because he, like Rian [Johnson, director of Episode VIII] and like Gareth, is very much that next generation filmmaker," Kinberg explained. "He comes from a background of making a big movie without a big budget. Which I think is also, not that these movies ... they'll have huge budgets, but the sort of the tradition that George [Lucas] started was somebody that came from making American Graffiti to making a huge science fiction movie. And so there was some of that sort of vibe I know Lucasfilm likes about these new filmmakers. But yeah, I definitely was involved in that process."

He added: "I think we will, in one form or another, be working together again."

But when he was asked about more details on these projects, he couldn't reveal much else.

"I can't talk about the content of what those movies are," he said.
