Vanessa Hudgens is making the jump from High School Musical to an actual musical in the Broadway revival of Gigi. The 25-year-old actress signed on to the production after playing the title role in recent New York readings.

The Spring Breakers actress will test out her musical talent in a pre-Broadway performance at the Eisenhower Theater at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washing D.C. in January.

"I went in and I was terrified," Vanessa told the Washington Post about her initial audition for the role. When the offer came to play Gigi, Vanessa recalled, "I was like screaming in the car. I called my mom, I called my dad. I could not believe it."

In an interview on Wednesday with the Associated Press, Vanessa opened up about her longstanding dream to be on Broadway. "I started performing in musicals from a young age, and it has always been my dream to be on Broadway. I cannot wait to get back on stage, singing and dancing these songs and living in Gigi's glamorous world."

"I've never been so ecstatic about a project before. I genuinely feel like a child, beaming from ear-to-ear, being taken to Disneyland for the first time. It's something that I actually feel I was born to do," she added.

The Disney star gained fame for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical franchise, but she's ready to take a break from acting to perform on the Broadway stage. Vanessa shared her excitement about her new role on Twitter and Instagram.

"So excited to play Gigi in @GigiOnBroadway! I hope y'all will have a chance to see me in it when we open
