Matt Smith has been making a name for himself ever since leaving BBC's hit series Doctor Who last year, and the star's latest casting news is definitely going to help with his career. With movies like Lost River and Terminator: Genisys hitting theaters soon, the actor is showing no signs of slowing down. Smith this week officially joined the production of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - a horror/comedy "adaptation" of Jane Austen's best-selling work.

Seth Grahame-Smith's novel of the same name is getting a movie adaptation that has long been in the works. Burr Steers is directing Smith and the other cast members including Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and Douglas Booth.

The Hollywood Reporter has the plot synopsis for this new film:

The heroine, Liz Bennett (James), is pressured by her family to marry into a wealthy upper-class home and chafes at the stiff societal ways of 1800s England. Instead, she feels that she should help defend the countryside against the onslaught of a horrifying zombie plague.

According to the casting news, Smith is set to play Mr. Collins, a parson that is on the lookout for a wife and tries to win over Miss Bennett. If our assumptions are correct, this might not end well for Smith since he's not Mr. Darcy!

This project has been in the works for a number of years, at one point having Natalie Portman attached to star. With the cast list growing pretty well over the last few months, it looks like it will finally be made!
