Last season on Chicago Fire, viewers were left speculating which characters were going to make it out alive as they rushed into a burning building.

Fans have been waiting all summer long and last night during the season three premiere finally got the agonizing answer they were looking for. Sadly enough, Shay was the unlucky one who didn't make it into season three alive.

The first episode surrounds the loss of Shay, and how the ones she was close to Dawson and Severide are dealing with the tragic loss. Chief Boden does what he can to bring the firehouse back together, while most of the crew seem fine in their own regards. Dawson is distant and is even late to work one morning from a mystery appointment that we come to find out was a therapy appointment. Severide has gone MIA, however Casey tracks down where he has been hiding out. Otis and Herrmann make some new decisions regarding Molly's. Newhouse brings news to Otis regarding one of his family members he asked him to track down. A new character, Sylvie, replaces Shay's. She surprisingly looks like her, talk, skinny with blonde hair. However her demeanor is a bit different and of course Dawson is a bit stand-offish to her at first. However, she ends up proving herself during one of their runs.

Season three wasted no time jumping back into the burning building they left off at in season two. Severide and Dawson try everything they can to revive Shay, but there is no hope. Dawson is devastated by her loss, but feels more guilt in the fact that before the explosion that killed her, she had her switch sides with her, resulting in her death.

The episode is filled with flashbacks from both Dawson and Severide, reminiscing of Shay and how their bonds came to form over the years.

Dawson still hasn't left Firehouse 51, and we see that's not her main problem anyway as it was in season two. She realizes what she has, Casey's proposal, and says over and over to him that she want's to marry him. Last season we were cut off by the firehouse alarms while he proposed. He agrees, and wants to propose to her right.

Casey tracks down the MIA Severide. He finds him appropriately chopping wood in a revealing tank-top (yum!) while avoiding having to come to terms with the death of Shay.

Other key points to note before heading into episode two.

-       Hermann and Otis decide to franchise Molly's. This is something Shay, mentioned many times during last season.

-       Katie and Otis aren't brought up this season so far, however a small love interest sparks between Otis and the new paramedic Sylvie.

-       Chief Boden and Donna are still strong and head out to a nice dinner with Mouch and his new girlfriend Trudy (Chicago PD) Mouch and Trudy are made for one-another.
