'Doctor Who' Season 8 Episodes, Rumors & Spoilers - "The Caretaker" Writer Gareth Roberts Talks Episode Inspirations, Teasers And More
This weekend's episode of Doctor Who is looking like a big moment in the lives of Clara and Danny. Entitled "The Caretaker," episode 6 will show more of this budding relationship than before, with a fun adventure down on Earth in the present taking place. Writer Gareth Roberts recently spoke with the show's official website about scripting the show and working it into Peter Capaldi's season 8.
"Steven Moffat and [executive producer] Brian Minchin wanted to show the new Doctor in everyday life in the present day. He's been in the past and future a lot already this year so it was time to bring him to the here and now," the writer explained. "I'd written The Lodger and Closing Time for Matt Smith's Doctor and they wanted something along similar lines. Peter's Doctor is still a fish out of water in our world but in a very different way to Matt. He doesn't have any time for social niceties, or even trying to blend in. He thinks it'll be easy. Also, Steven had carefully plotted out the story of the Doctor, Clara and Danny across the series, and this episode is a major turning point for them all."
We can probably expect plenty of comedy considering Roberts' past episodes, but we'll have to wait and see this weekend!
So was Roberts allowed to take photos on set?
"We're not allowed," he admitted. "And I couldn't make to the filming it this time. But I got the rushes sent to me every day and I was punching the air at the performances of Peter, Jenna and Sam."
