Derek Hough has been dancing on ABC's hit reality show Dancing With the Stars since 2007, so he knows a thing or two about dancing. Last week his partner YouTube star Bethany Mota hurt her ankle, but still managed to perform. Derek explains the update on his partner's injury and what they have in store for week three of season 19.

"After Bethany injured her ankle, I was like, 'Oh, of all the weeks,' but we went for it and got through it, and I'm really proud of Bethany," the 29-year-old said in his blog for TV Guide.

"Bethany's ankle is not doing great. We're wrapping it and icing it. The problem is you've got to stay off of it, but we don't have time for that. It's unfortunate. We're doing everything we can to try not to make it worse," he wrote about her progress on Friday.

"It was getting a little worse Thursday when she was on it. I'm adjusting the choreography to favor it a little bit and I'm trying to be conscious about it, like I'd go, 'Go to the right, oh, actually, go to your left.' Hopefully she'll be feeling better by Monday."

If Bethany does get better you will see the duo perform a jazz routine to "Singin' in the Rain" from the hit film by the same name. The performance fits perfectly with week three's theme of movies. "I always thought I would do it as a Macy's Stars of Dance piece. So I had to approach this differently. It's not about what my body wants to do; it's about what her body wants to do. We're using an umbrella for it. Shocking, right?" Derek explained.

"I'm excited about it. It's going to look beautiful. We've got little things in there that will be fun. We're keeping it classic, but adding things in a little modern twist and musicality in there."

As for his competition, Derek admits that Betsey Johnson was pretty great last week, but there is one celebrity that keeps surprising him week after week.

"Tommy [Chong] is surprising the hell of me. He is pure entertainment. Peta [Murgatroyd] is doing a great job with him. I know when the cast was announced, a lot of people thought he would be cannon fodder or the first one out. It's so fun to see that you think you know, you think you got it sussed out, but you don't. It happens every season," he wrote.

Tune in to Dancing With the Stars on Monday to see how Derek and Bethany do with their jazz routine.
