Katy Perry To Be ESPN's College GameDay Celebrity Guest Picker At Ole Miss
In a bit of a surprise choice, ESPN's College GameDay has booked Katy Perry as its celebrity guest picker for this Saturday's game between No. 3 Alabama and No. 11 Ole Miss.
The game will take place in Oxford, Mississippi, at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, home of the 4-0 Rebels. GameDay will be broadcast nearby, from the University's Grove, a tailgating area at the center of campus.
As is tradition with all celebrity guests, Perry will join Lee Corso and Co. in predicting a winner for the day's featured game.
So what sort of ties does the "Roar" singer have to Ole Miss (or even just the state of Mississippi) to qualify her for this great honor? None, really.
The closest she comes are the following two fun facts:
1. Perry's manager, Bradford Cobb, is an alumus (BA English '96) of Ole Miss.
2. She was once photographed wearing an Ole Miss t-shirt, and current Ole Miss students love to post it all over Pinterest.
Perry also happens to be performing in the area that weekend, with a show scheduled in Memphis (about 85 miles from the Ole Miss campus) on Sunday.
On Thursday evening, GameDay co-host Kirk Herbstreit (jokingly?) mentioned on Twitter that they were still in need of a celeb picker and that maybe Perry would be interested since she'd be in town.
Perry responded almost instantly with major interest, and the deal was done.
And everyone seems to be really into the idea, considering ESPN's spokesperson, Keri Potts, confirmed the news via Twitter a mere two minutes after Perry's tweet.
