Bill Walton An Ordained Minister? Celtics Legend Marries Couple At Weekend Wedding

Well, Bill Walton officiated a wedding this weekend, apparently.

On Sunday, Walton’s wife Lori tweeted a photo of the 7-foot NBA legend towering over a bride and groom at the altar of their wedding.

It’s unclear of exactly what Walton’s credentials are in the whole marriage-overseeing arena, but NBC Sports writer Sean Highkin has an idea.

“Since when is Bill Walton an ordained minister?” Highkin wrote. “Hard to see that one coming. Unless he got his certificate on one of those websites.” Twitter user @Ugarles, meanwhile, suggests maybe this wasn’t such a recent occurrence, and the big man has been holding out on us all this time.

This discovery has left some people a bit envious of the newlywed couple.

Walton starred for the UCLA Bruins in the 1970s and was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 1974 before signing with the San Diego Clippers as a free agent in 1979 and then getting traded to the Boston Celtics in 1985.

The big man averaged 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds in his NBA career.

Since his retirement from basketball, Walton has become a sportscaster. He has worked for NBC Sports, the Los Angeles Clippers, ABC/ESPN and the Sacramento Kings. Now he is a game analyst for Pac-12 basketball.
