Gary Patterson, Phil Bennett, Trevone Boykin, Ahmad Dixon, Art Broyles: TCU Head Coach Claims Baylor Player Threatened Him; Feud Continues

TCU head coach Gary Patterson was reportedly approached and potentially threatened by a Baylor player following his Horned Frogs' 61-58 loss to the Bears on Saturday night in Waco, Texas.

As Fox Sports notes, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported that the player - who remains unidentified to the public - allegedly came up to Patterson during the post-game handshakes between the two teams and said something to him. The player then continued to talk after Patterson turned and tried to walk away. At that point, Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett stepped in and pulled the player away.

"I'm not going into all that. It was disappointing," Patterson said in the post-game press conference. "Coach Bennett was the one who broke it up. You can ask him."
ESPN did just that, but Bennett downplayed the incident. He said the player "mouthed off" to Patterson but "did not threaten anybody."

"[There was] never a threat," Bennett told ESPN.com. "I jumped on him and got him out of there."

According to Patterson, the motivation behind the alleged threats stemmed from last year's Baylor vs. TCU matchup when he went on a post-game rant following his team's 41-38 loss. During that game, Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon was ejected on a targeting call after hitting TCU wide receiver Trevone Boykin, and Patterson was not happy with the way Baylor head coach Art Briles managed his players following the incident.

Patterson says he apologized to Briles for the year-old rant before yesterday's game.

"I always call it how I see it, good or bad, but I wanted to make sure I waited a year till I got to this point where it was in the heat of battle to make sure I told him how I felt about the situation," Patterson said.
