NBC's new comedy Marry Me premieres on Tuesday, Oct.14. With its premiere date quickly approaching, the cast of the new series is opening up about what you can expect this season and where the show's inspiration comes from.

Marry Me stars Happy Endings' Casey Wilson and Childrens Hospital's Ken Marino as a couple who experience a set back or two when Ken's character, Jake, tries to propose to his girlfriend, Annie (played by Casey). The show follows their journey from an awkward engagement to their wedding, but that isn't the shows only focus.

"It's not a show about, 'Are they meant to be together? Are they not meant to be together?' It's more about them entering this new chapter of their lives and how they handle it," Ken told TV Line, about the storyline.

"At the core of the show, it's largely about our relationship, but as it pertains to our friendships and our families. Everyone's in every episode and a huge part of every episode," Casey revealed to the publication.

The cast as a whole is dynamic and work really well together on the new comedy. With John Gemerling as Gil, Sarah Wright Olsen as Dennah, and Tymberlee Hill as Kay, the cast is very well rounded. Saturday Night Live star Tim Meadows and Scandal's Dan Bucatinsky will also join the cast playing Annie's gay dads.

The show was created by David Caspe, Casey's real-life husband and is based on the melding together of their two lives after they got engaged and then married. In fact, David pitched the idea for Marry Me before he had even proposed to Casey.

"I was openly telling all these rooms of executives that I was going to propose to Casey, but she didn't know yet, and that season one, I would be living it as I'm writing it," David said in an interview with The New York Times.

Even though the network kept the proposal a secret, Casey had a feeling a proposal was coming. "I thought it was some big surprise. But she showed up in full hair and makeup. She totally knew it was happening," he recalled.

Casey revealed that their struggles as a couple are part of what sparked not only David's idea for the series, but numerous storylines within the show. "I once told him in a fit of rage that I wanted to drive my car through his new house. Then five minutes later, he saw me eating Gummi Bears and laughing at the TV. I think those emotional swings have been a lot for David to process," Casey explained to The New York Times.
