'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2' Rumors, Release Date, Trailer Spoilers - Tommy Wirkola Won't Direct Sequel, But Is Writing New Jeremy Renner & Gemma Arterton Fairy Tale Action Movie
Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a surprisingly good fairy tale action adventure film starring Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner. Due to blockbuster success and general desire from fans, a sequel is in the works, though Wirkola won't be directing it. However, in a new interview this week while promoting his new film Dead Snow 2 (Red Vs. Dead), he revealed that he is writing the script and then shared some details on the movie's progress.
"I can only say there's voodoo involved," the writer/director told Crave when asked about the sequel. "The script is much more studio-friendly. That's the wrong word. I learned a lot of lessons on the first one, and even for an R-rated film there are things you can't put in a film that costs $65 million or whatever it was. And I understand that."
Hopefully everything gets worked out and we can see Renner and Arterton's monster-fighting sibling duo take on some voodoo in the near future!
He added: "There's a lot of money involved, but it was just a very frustrating experience at the time because I hadn't been through it before. So this time I wrote a script that embraces the R but the first Hansel & Gretel script was as crazy as the Dead Snow: Red Vs. Dead script originally. It was just a snip, a tear in a lot of places. So the script for number two is a little more round around the edges maybe."
