Tom Daley Dedicates Olympic Bronze Medal to Deceased Father
Great Britain diver Tom Daley's dad would have been the proudest father in the world after his son took home the Olympic bronze medal for diving. To Daley, the victory couldn't have happened without his dad, Robert Daley.
"I know that if he was here he would be very proud," said Daley. "It's really tough not having him here, but I'm so glad to come out with something to show for it after all of the hard work we put in together."
The 18-year-old made his mark in Britain's history as the first individual to win a medal in diving for 52 years.
Daley is grateful to many mentors and supporters who have guided him in the right direction to get where he is. He revealed thankfulness towards David Beckham for helping him how to deal with the men's synchronizing failure and disappoint.
"He wanted to wish me well and to say keep your chin up," said Daley, who said he had corresponded with Beckham via text.
"David was asking how I've been feeling, giving me advice about what to take out of the synchro. He was kind of asking me the right questions, telling me it's not that bad and that I can come back."
He also attributed his success to the advice given by director Alexei Evangulov urging Daley to focus more on his training rather than media engagements.
He has also lost 8kg based on Evangulov's suggestion to slim down for a better performance.
He looks forward to eating anything he wants now that the final is completed and the Bronze is his to keep.
