David Boudia Gay Rumors False: Engaged to Sonnie Brand
Olympic diver David Boudia is not gay, but he is off the market. The 23-year-old gold and bronze medalist recently got engaged to girlfriend Sonnie Brand just a couple of months prior to the start of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Boudia rose to Team U.S.A. Olympic stardom after he won the gold medal in the 10 meter platform diving competition and the bronze medal with synchronized platform partner Nick McCrory. Following the gold, Boudia stated, "It feels surreal. I can't believe I'm an Olympic champion."
Before reaching Olympic fame, Boudia proposed to girlfriend Brand back in May. Following Brand's "Yes," Boudia tweeted the picture above along with the post:
@davidboudia:"I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together."
Confirmation of the engagement squashes any rumors questioning Boudia's sexuality. Following Boudia's Olympic success, the rumor mill started churning that the American diver was gay.
Former Olympic gold medalist diver Greg Louganis announced that he was openly gay and HIV positive during the Summer Olympic Games back in 1988.
No matter what gossip entails, Boudia and Brand appear to be in a healthy and happy relationship and seem excited to start their lives together away from all the Olympic mayhem (maybe back in their home state of Indiana). Following Boudia's Olympic victory, Brand tweeted:
@sunnie: @davidboudia definitely redefined his journey in so many ways! For one by ripping dives and taking Gold! So proud. So thankful. God is good!"
