Meteor Shower August 2012: Catch Some Shooting Stars Tonight
The Perseid meteor showers' peak time has passed, however it's still possible to catch a few shooting stars tonight (August 14, 2012). Meteors were spotted at 60 to 100 meteors per hour on August 12 and 13 (with live streaming), and is expected to slow down to 40 meteors per hour tonight.
Over the past weekend, many families and friends camped out under the night sky to witness the show conducted by mother nature. Some simply peered out their home's window.
To see a meteor does not require any special equipment. Factors that influence the chance of seeing a meteor including the time of night, weather, the location, and the darkness of the night. City lights would definitely lower your chances to spot a shooting star.
Live streaming was provided for those who couldn't access a good spot for the meteor showers. NASA has not confirmed a live stream link yet.
