'The Mysteries of Laura' Receives Full-Season Pick Up From NBC
The Mysteries of Laura has officially been picked up for a full season by NBC. The crime show starring Debra Messing will now have 22 episodes in its first season.
"Debra has effortlessly infused Laura with a relatability that is captivating audiences. We can't wait to see how Laura will continue to evolve throughout the entire season," NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a statement.
In the series, Debra plays Laura Diamond, a homicide detective living in New York City. The series follows Laura as she tries to balance her work life and her twin boys at home. Another added stressor is her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jake Broderick, played by Sweet Home Alabama's Josh Lucas, who becomes her new boss in the beginning of the series.
"Since its premiere, 48 percent of more than 13,000 TVGuide.com users said that they liked the show in our Fall TV Popularity Contest, while 37 percent said that they didn't and 15 percent said it was too soon to tell," TV Guide reported.
"I play a single working mom getting divorced from my lieutenant boss. I go to Target, run to school, get oatmeal for breakfast, then hit the precinct as a homicide detective," Debra told Page Six about her multidimensional character.
"It's unconventional. I dress like a slob. My partner gets hurt, and I use feminine things that shouldn't be seen to sop up blood."
"Through its first six telecasts, The Mysteries of Laura has averaged a 1.8 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 10.4 million viewers overall in 'most current' figures from Nielsen Media Research. In 'live plus same day' results, The Mysteries of Laura has improved the Wednesday 8-9 p.m. ET/PT hour by +58% or 3.3 million persons versus NBC's results in the hour one year earlier," Zap2It reported.
The Mysteries of Laura airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
