In case you thought that the Young Adult (YA) movie adaptation genre was shrinking after the releases of seemingly countless films that fall under that category this year and the years prior, we have some great news for you. According to new reports, another YA novel is getting the film treatment - The Scorpio Races. Written by young novelist Maggie Stiefvater, this new story mixes the dystopian future elements with fantasy in an entertaining collage.

The Hollywood Reporter broke this news, announcing that Focus Features would take on the project. The book was released back in 2011 and even had a movie deal in the works with Warner Bros. Alas, that deal fell through, leading to three years later to this deal that was announced just this week.

The story is set on the fictional island of Thisby where, every November, a deadly race is held on mystical and dangerous water horses - only one person will win, and some will die.

After the news broke, Steifvater took to her Facebook page to share the big news.

"I've been sitting on this news for so, so long," she told her social media followers this week. "More than any of my books, this is the one I long to see on the big screen, and it's also the one that has had the most aggressive interest since publication. Fingers crossed that it makes it to filming."

As you can tell by Maggie's final sentence from this post, she is very aware that this project could fall apart. After all, it did back in 2011! She also had trouble with another one of her novels, Shiver, which suffered a contract lapse, which might happen with another project, The Raven Boys- New Line has been sitting on this one for a while now.
