Blake Shelton, Keith Urban Vs. Kenny Chesney Feud: 'The Big Revival' Singer Slams Judges On 'The Voice' And 'American Idol'!
Blake Shelton and Keith Urban are country music superstars who have gained millions of new fans from their judging stints on The Voice and American Idol, respectively, but their fellow country star Kenny Chesney isn't the biggest fan of reality TV singing competitions shows.
"I'm not knocking anybody that does it, but I just don't ever see myself doing it," the No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems singer told Billboard Magazine. "Can you imagine Tom Petty being a judge on American Idol?" Ouch...
Another aspect that makes him upset is the sexism involved in many country songs.
"Over the last several years, it seems like anytime anybody sings about a woman, she's in cutoff jeans, drinking and on a tailgate-they objectify the hell out of them," he said. "Twenty years ago, I might have written a song like that — I probably did. But I'm at a point where I want to say something different about women."
Kenny's latest album The Big Revival has been a big success selling 130,000 copies in its first week and opening at number one on the Billboard country charts. His style of music has changed tremendously since first entering the industry 20 years ago.
He felt it wasn't "OK just to be the guy on the beach" anymore, referring to his island-sounding music so after 2010, he was "feeling like I had been making music on a conveyor belt." That is why, according to him, his latest album is different from his previous efforts.
The "When the Sun Goes Down" singer really values his privacy and told Billboard he put his Virgin Islands homes up for sale because of iPhones.
"It's harder now, because everybody is paparazzi," he told the mag. However, "It's still rejuvenating — I just have to walk a little more carefully. That's why God made boats."
