The NYC shooting that occurred near the Empire State Building injured 8 innocent victims and killed 2, including the murderer Jeffrey Johnson.   It has been confirmed by authorities that the 53-year-old's shooting is not related to terrorists attacks.

It was around 9:00 a.m. when Johnson stopped by his old workplace where he was fired a year ago, and killed his former boss with a shot to his head.  A construction worker who witnessed the incident followed Johnson and contacted the police in the area.  Johnson fired at the police but was killed by the police instead.  8 other people including a few officers were wounded in the midst of the open fire incident and taken to the hospital to be treated. None of the injuries are life-threatening according to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Johnson reportedly used a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun to attack his former boss with whom he had qualms with.  According to the police, the two have previously filed complaints over harassment in the work place.

The tragedy left many shocked and much criticism sparked in the comment feeds of news and social websites.

One commenter wrote, "Tough gun laws in NYC work.  Gun violence is way down since they took effect, but people still bring them in from states with lax laws.  We need a national effort toward restricting gun purchases."

Another reader wrote, "How many more of these things until we start cracking down on gun control. Innocent people have to keep getting shot just so some hick in the south can stock his gun rack?"
