Lindsay Lohan Jewelry Theft Case: Suspected of Stealing $100,000 Worth of Watches, Sunglasses
TMZ reports that the Los Angeles Police Department has announced that it now considers actress and infamous Hollywood troublemaker Lindsay Lohan a suspect in a jewelry heist case that involves $100,000 worth of stolen goods.
According to TMZ, Lohan and her assistant Gavin Doyle attended the Hollywood Hills party of millionaire Sam Madrid on Sunday, Aug 19. Madrid delayed Lohan's attempt to leave the following morning when he realized that several expensive pieces of jewelry had gone missing, among them watches and some pairs of sunglasses. Madrid had all partygoers remain at his home until he called the police to report the theft. Lohan and Doyle are both suspects in the crime.
The drama continued to unfold when Madrid recanted his story several days later, insisted that nothing had actually been stolen. Even so, TMZ reports that the LAPD refuses to close the investigation, believing that they still have a strong case against Lohan and Doyle (with testimonies from independent witnesses). LAPD detectives requested an interview with both suspects from their lawyer, but the request was rejected.
This is not the first time Lohan, 26, has been in hot water involving a jewelry theft case. The "Mean Girls" star is still on probation in regards to a theft involving a necklace that was swiped from a Venice, CA jewelry store last year. Her chances of returning to jail for violating probation are quite high if she is charged this time around.
(In 2008, Lohan was suspected of high-jacking an $11,000 mink coat. In 2010, she was suspected of stealing a $35,000 Rolex watch. Both incidents were deemed misunderstandings and the "Georgia Rule" star was not charged).
