Whitney Houston's Lifetime biopic has a release date finally. MStars News has learned that the film will air next year, January 17 on Lifetime.

According to Essence, fans will be able to tune in to the new controversial film the first of year as we see if Yaya DaCosta Alafia has what it takes to play the late legendary singer.

Bobby Brown will be played by Arlen Escapeta, and songstress Deborah Cox will be singing Whitney's hit songs.

MStars News previously reported that the new biopic had some drama while being produced between the Houston family and the director Angela Bassett.

In an interview earlier this year, Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, revealed that she did not approve of the biopic being produced. Houston wants everyone to let her daughter "rest."

"Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family's objections," Cissy previously said to ET in a statement. "No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby."

Cissy also said, "In the two years since Whitney's death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn't know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please, please let her rest."

Bassett had more issues when the late singer's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, blasted the actress for rejecting her to be part of the film.

Bassett claims that she "Respects anyone's feelings," and says she "could understand." Bassett too "lost her own mother," while putting the biopic together.
