After last night's episode of Nashville, actress Clare Bowen is opening up about her character's emotional journey this season. Clare plays Scarlett on the hit ABC series and she has been through a lot.

From having to go to rehab last season for doing drugs and have a mental breakdown on stage to performing alongside her two ex boyfriends Avery and Gunnar on last night's episode, Scarlett has really come full circle.

"Scarlett grew up trying to be quiet, trying to hide and be as unobtrusive as possible. She is terrified of people. She is frightened of being yelled at. She doesn't like being the center of attention because every time she's been the center of attention, it's been abusive. So she is a people pleaser," Bowen revealed in her People blog on Thursday.

"She was told she had this beautiful voice and that she belonged on the stage. That's what everybody said. The majority of people say they worship celebrity, but Scarlett is not one of those people. Just because she has the talent doesn't mean she is one of those people who is clamoring to get on stage."

After her season two meltdown, Scarlett has continued to work with music, writing songs for other people and last night she found her voice again. After being yelled at by Terrance (the homeless man she has been helping) she finally took charge of her musical career again by singing at the Winter Nashfest.

"It's a wonderful thing to be able to portray. She's a lot stronger now. Nobody really looked after her, she didn't have a manager, she didn't have someone step in and say you're not okay. She dealt with it all herself," the Australian native explained.

As for what's next for her character, Bowen revealed that she doesn't exactly know what is on the horizon. "She has an unknown future. Scarlett is kind of a wild card. She has this talent for writing music and her voice is different and people seem to enjoy it," she admitted to the publication.

"It's weird because I'm talking about the voice that comes out of me. I don't want to brag, but Scarlett has this really unusual thing. So anything could happen. She could do whatever she wanted."
