It's hard to deny Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is an international superstar, that people in his hometown of Funchal, Portugal, get excited to see him when he's back. But they may have taken it a little too far.

Ronaldo was on hand recently in Funchal for the unveiling of a new bronze statute erected in his honor. How can we describe the statue? Simply, it's of Ronaldo standing straight up, sporting a huge boner.

Yes, a huge boner.

Twitter erupted with opinions after a photo of Ronaldo and Happy Ronaldo began circulating the Internet. Most comments had to do with the fact that, as far as statues go, this one seemed pretty happy to see everyone.

"This is a very special moment, to have a statue of me," Ronaldo told TIME, according to Mashable. Ronaldo's family was on hand, including his son, to see the statue, TIME reported.

This is more than just a high point in Ronaldo's career. The forward recently won the Club World Cup last week with Real Madrid. SBNation reports Ronaldo is the only player to win all of soccer's major awards — Golden Boot, Ballon d'Or, Champions League cup, Club World Cup — with two teams. Ronaldo starred for Manchester United before joining Madrid. He became the highest earner in Spanish football after signing a new five-year contact worth €17 million per year in 2013, according to ESPN. So he's deserving of a statue.

But that doesn't mean the statute can't be off-putting. Or funny. Or hilariously off-putting.

The bronze monstrosity weighs 800 kilos and was created by sculptor Ricardo Valosa, according to EuroNews.com.

"I think he's more beautiful than me. It's very beautiful. I love it," Ronaldo told the News.

Not very hard for us to believe.
