Starship Guitarist Mark Abrahamian Dead at 46
Mark Abrahamian, lead guitarist for the rock band Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, died following a performance on Sunday, Sept. 2. He was 46-years-old.
According to reports, Abrahamian died of a heart attack after stating he "wasn't feeling well" following Sunday's concert in Nebraska.
Road manager Scott Harrison told the AP, "We had just finished the show. We were back in the dressing room eating. He apparently told the bass player he wasn't feeling well." Reports have it that Abrahamian then went into another room to call his fiancé when he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Results of an autopsy that was performed on Monday are currently pending.
According to Harrison, Abrahamian's sudden passing is "a shock to everyone." While the "We Built this City" guitarist had not mentioned having any health problems to Harrison, he had apparently complained of chest pains to his fiancé Dianna Burley in the past. The two were planning to marry in a Hawaii-based ceremony in December.
Abrahamian had been playing as a member of Starship for 11 years. Funeral service details are still pending.
The band mourns their fellow band mate and companion on Facebook, writing:
"We are all shocked and saddened at the sudden loss of our guitar player Mark Abrahamian. Mark was a kind, thoughtful and innovative soul. He was also a friend and family member. Mark also happened to be one hell of a guitar player. We are devastated by the loss of our brother and just dealing with it the best we can."
