Nazanin Boniadi: Tom Cruise Former Scientology Girlfriend Before Katie Holmes, Ex-Member Spills Details [PHOTOS]

Nazanin Boniadi is the actress who allegedly auditioned to be Tom Cruises' wife before Katie Holmes came onto the scene. In the controversial cover story in October issue of Vanity Fair, Scientology critic Paul Haggis accuses the church of holding auditions to find the perfect mate for their member Cruise.

Paul Haggis is an Oscar-winning writer and director who had left the Church of Scientology after 35 years of membership.   He had a pretty nasty split with the church back in 2009 and since spoken out against the church's policies and "secret" ways.

He has spoken out bluntly in the Vanity Issue this time about Naz Boniadi.

"[Naz] never wanted it to come out, so I kept silent," wrote Haggis. "However I was deeply disturbed by how the highest-ranking members of a church could so easily justify using one of their members; how they so callously punished her and then so effectively silenced her when it was done. It wasn't just the threats; they actually made her feel ashamed, when all she had been was human and trusting."

The Church of Scientology's representative Karin Pouw responded to Haggis' accusation via a statement.

"There was no project, secret or otherwise, ever conducted by the Church to find a bride (audition or otherwise) for any member.  The allegation and entire premise of the Vanity Fair article is totally false."

Pouw also added that Haggis is "attempting to grab headlines and falsely slander his former religion."

The Vanity Article claimed that Boniadi dated Cruise from November 2004 to January 2005.  It also claimed that the actress was told to sign an agreement, get rid of her red highlights, take off her braces before meeting Cruise.
Eventually the relationship did not work out, and Boniadi confided in a friend who reported to Scientology leaders.  Boniadi was then punished  with dirty work including toilet scrubbing and bathroom cleaning.
While Vanity Fair's cover story seem a little over the top and did not feature any direct quotes from Boniadi herself, Haggis insisted to prove his point.

"I've met quite a number of people who have been treated shamefully but are afraid to speak out. This story will draw attention because of our fascination with celebrity. Most of the others are just ordinary people whose stories, if told, would not appear in a magazine. They live in fear of retribution, legal, financial or personal, even some famous ones."

Boniadi is no longer with the Church of Scientology after having left a few years back.

Haggis added, "In Naz's case, she has no right to feel ashamed. She is not only a terrific actress at the beginning of a very promising career, she is a dedicated human-rights activist and a truly lovely and caring person. The last thing she wanted or needed is this kind of publicity, but here it is, and I am sure she will deal with it with the same grace and dignity she exudes in her daily life."

Boniadi has been referred as the "Persian Audrey Hepburn" due to her elsgane and poise.  The 32-year-old Iranian actress has yet to speak out about this incident.   The story so far is very one sided without input from Cruise, Boniadi nor the Church of Scientology.  The main voice speaking is a former member who has left the church on bad terms.

Before anyone draws a conclusion, let's get all the facts from all sides.
