MTV VMA 2012: Kevin Hart Takes on “Presidency” While DNC Simultaneously Airs

Following an outstanding opening performance by R&B artist Rihanna at the 2012 MTV VMAs, host Kevin Hart took the stage, escorted by an army of little people serving as security for "the president." Ironic Hart decided to pose as the head of the state and government, considering Thursday's Democratic National Convention airs simultaneously with the hit awards show (just as Rihanna was taking the MTV stage, former Arizona democratic House representative Gabrielle Giffords delivered the "Pledge of Allegiance" at the DNC).

Check out some of the highlights from Hart's opening act, where he lambasts MTV and some of its hit stars for making "so many mistakes":

As Hart stated, "I'm the host, it's live you, can't stop me from saying what I want to say."

Hart tells Drake and Chris Brown to nip their ongoing feud in the bud. He doesn't care about their little NYC bar brawl.

Hart salutes Frank Ocean for "coming out of the closet" in such a creative way - in the middle of a song during a live performance.

Hart reflects on Snooki and her new baby son Lorenzo. He congrats the "Jersey Shore" star, but begs her not to "Guido-nize" her child. Oh, and he feels extremely bad for baby daddy Jionni LaValle.

That's right, Hart confronts the big elephant in the room, Kristen Stewart. She made a mistake so what!

Some other "mistake" highlights: Kanye West, Lil' Mama performing alongside Missy Elliott, the Britney Spears and Madonna kiss, comedian Russell Brand hosting the VMAs - twice.

After his quick rant, Hart stage dives into the crowd while introducing the night's first celebrity announcer Katy Perry. The "Wide Awake" singer gave out the first award of the night for "Best Pop Video" - congrats to British heartthrobs One Direction for "What Makes you Beautiful!"
