Channing Tatum is very outspoken about his excitement over playing the Marvel Comics character Gambit in a new X-Men standalone, spin-off movie project. In fact, just this week the actor started off his fan's 2015 right by taking to Twitter to slyly reveal the release date of the film. It turns out, 2016 will have two new X-Men films in theaters, including X-Men: Apocalypse in May.

Here is Channing Tatum's Twitter post, which revealed the movie's release date in a very fun way:

IGN has confirmed with Fox that this release date is official. Also, we could see Tatum's character in the 2016 X-Men project, but as of now that is all speculation. What do you think of Tatum's way of revealing this news? Are you excited for Oct. 7, 2016? We don't have any information on who will direct the star in the film, but we're sure that news will pop up early this year.

"We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We're obviously going to go to the saving-the-world superhero movies eventually, but maybe not for the first one," Tatum said a few months ago, according to Slash Film. "We kind of want to introduce this character in a very different way. When you try to do something different, you never really know right off the bat what that is. We're feeling our way into it. And we really just gotta prove that concept of that person."

What do you think of this release date news? Who do you think should direct the movie? Is Gambit going to do better than X-Men: Apocalypse in the 2016 box office? Let us know in the comments section below!
