Nicholas Sparks, the author of some of the most beloved stories of love and romance, has separated from his wife, Cathy, after 25 years of marriage. The author has written 17 romantic novels, many of which have been created into movies that plenty of fans have been quoting for years now. According to Sparks, Cathy was the inspiration for the love he created in his books, but now the couple is most likely headed for divorce. How does this make you feel about The Notebook, The Best of Me and his other novels now?

Nicholas and Kathy met in college and then got married in 1989. The couple has three sons and twin daughters together, who are the main focus during this trying time.

"Cathy and I have separated," Sparks in a statement released to numerous press outlets. "This is, of course, not a decision we've made lightly. We remain close friends with deep respect for each other and love for our children. For our children's sake, we regard this as a private matter."

Besides the movies mentioned above, Sparks' other movie credits include A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, Safe Haven, The Lucky One, Nights in Rodanthe, The Last Song, Dear John, and the soon to be released The Longest Ride. Also, The Choice is in the works for a film adaptation.

"Every morning when I wake up and see my wife; that is the kind of love that I write about in the novels," he said in a 2013 interview about The Longest Ride.

If this statement above is true about his work and his wife, should we expect a drop in Sparks novels from now on? Perhaps his work will change in other ways too, but for now we hope that the author and his family get through this separation without too much trouble.
