'So You Think You Can Dance' Fired Mary Murphy: Nigel Lythgoe And Cat Deeley 'SYTYCD' Co-Star Not Returning — Will Paula Abdul Replace Her?
The time has come for us to say goodbye to one of our favorite reality show judges. So You Think You Can Dance is about to lose one of its staple judges when the series returns this summer. Mary Murphy's contract has not been picked up and the star has decided to exit the series. The coach has been with the show for many years from 2007-09 and then again, after taking a two-year break, from 2011-14.
According to TVLine, Murphy's contract was unfortunately not renewed for the new season, which will premiere this summer and most likely begin production in the coming weeks.
The choreographer released a statement regarding her exit via E! News that said she was saddened by her departure but grateful for her time with the TV series.
"I'm saddened of course to be released from my contract," the star explained. "I'm very grateful and proud to have been part of such an extraordinary television show, So You Think You Can Dance, for 11 seasons. I'm sure there wasn't a person watching that didn't know I loved what I did!"
"Thank you to the dancers and choreographers who inspired and enriched my life every week," Murphy continued. "To the crew and producers, especially James Breen, Jeff Thackler and Nigel Lythgoe, I thank you for believing in me. And thank you to my fans, as you always put a smile on my face when I encountered you. It has been a great pleasure and honor to be part of the dance wave that went global.
She then signed the letter, "The Conductor of the Hot Tamale Train, Mary Murphy."
TVLine is also reporting that Paula Abdul could possible be taking over the seat left vacant by Murphy. After all, Paula does have years of experience with judging under her belt.
