Keith Urban was confirmed as the fourth judge to join the American Idol panel alongside Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj.  He will add the missing country flavor to the talent show and is expected to help attract a large country fan base.

Urban has experience as a judge from being on the Australian The Voice talent show for one season.  He quit the role recently and released a statement to explain his departure.

"I've been so fortunate to have been a part of The Voice.  And as much as I'd love to do it again, it's clear that the recording and promoting of a new album, a tour and other commitments, will keep me from being a part of the second season," he said according to mjsbigblog.

"To everyone who sang on the show I thank you, you've inspired not just me, but countless others.  To everyone behind the scenes and to my on camera family Darren, Delta, Joel and Seal, thank you for making it so much fun. Keep watching Australia!" he added.

It turns out that his "other commitments" include his new gig as an American Idol judge.

Mike Darnell from Fox Entertainment told EW, "Keith is another great addition to Idol - he's one of the biggest stars in country music and I know that our fans and contestants will fall in love with him."

There was no official announcement about the amount Urban will earn, however it has been confirmed that the country singer is in it for the money.  The most popular rumor about his salary suggested that Urban will receive $4 million for one year.
