Kelley Davies Currin: Rick Curl USA Swimming Coach Receives Lifetime Ban
Kelley Davies Currin was the victim of USA Swimming coach Rick Curl back in the 1980s. He had sexually abused her when Currin was only 13 years old. Curl was 33 at the time. In 1989, Currin's family and Curl made an agreement to keep it a secret in exchange for $150,000, according to the Washington Post.
Not until recently did justice take place. The Post reported that Curl has been officially banned from USA Swimming for life on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012.
Currin's attorney Robert Allard released a statement for her that states, "I am happy to hear that Rick Curl may finally be starting to accept responsibility for what he did to me. I can now only hope that USA Swimming will accept responsibility for refusing to ban Rick Curl when they had knowledge to do so."
According to Allard, Currin wants all those who knew about the incident to be removed from their positions.
Curl is now dubbed as the "Jerry Sandusky" of USA Swimming. Though he was a great swimming coach and had led swimmers to Olympic championship, his career is now over.
Curl has stepped down from all roles and positions related to swimming including the famous Curl-Burke Swim Club he had founded in 1978. It has now been renamed to the "Nations's Capital Swim Club."
