Madame Pleads Guilty: Suburban Mom admits to Promoting Prostitution in NYC

A New York City multimillion dollar Madame (also a suburban housewife and mother-of-four) plead guilty in a Manhattan court on Tuesday to promoting prostitution - Scotland-born Anna Gristina now faces increased jail time and deportation.

While Gristina insists she was just starting a dating service based from her own personal apartment, New York prosecutors accuse the 45-year-old soccer mom of boosting a large clientele of wealthy, well-placed patrons who came to her for sexual favors over the past 15 years. This - as well as Gristina's supposed "law-enforcement connections" - has made her millions of dollars in shady revenue. The defense sees it differently - lawyers say Gristina lived on a 12-acre property in Monroe (50 miles north of New York City) during this time and rescued animals, helping abandoned pet pigs find new homes. Looks like Gristina may have been leading two very different lives.

However, Gristina was caught during a sting back in July 2011, after she arranged a "meeting" with three clients - two women and one individual who turned out to be an undercover officer. She was arrested on February 22, 2012 and charged with a single count of promoting prostitution. Gristina then spent four months in jail before being released on a $250,000 bond in June.

The Manhattan court judge says Gristina will be sentenced on Nov. 20 to time served and probation; she could also be deported.

Gristina's lawyer Norman Pattis tried to get the case dismissed, insisting that the district attorney's office "vindictively prosecuted her as a result of her failure to cooperate with investigators." Pattis goes on to claim that Gristina was illegally interrogated.

According to Gristina in court papers, investigators told her she would be let go if she gave them information about five clients - the DA's office's response was that Gristina "has not produced a shred of evidence of actual vindictiveness."

Two alleged prostitutes and an accused money-launderer have also been arrested in the case. Gristina's former "match-making" recruiter Jaynie Baker was charged with aiding Gristina set up her sexual encounters. Baker reached a deal with the court and is due back in front of the judge on Oct. 2.
