Katy Perry Ex Boyfriend Died: Songs That He Inspired Perry to Write 'The One That Got Away'

Katy Perry's ex boyfriend Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis was found dead in the driveway of the home he was renting on Wednesday (September 27). Perry had dated him for approximately 18 months back in 2006. A source close to Perry revealed to Us Weekly that her songs "The One That Got Away" and "Circle the Drain" were inspired by him.

On Wednesday, Lewis' Neighbors reported to the police that they had heard a woman screaming inside the home where Lewis was renting a room. When police arrived to the house, he was not the only one found dead. Lewis' 81-year-old landlady Catherine Davis was found beaten to death inside of her house, and her cat appeared to have been mutilated before its death. Lewis is now the primary suspect for the murder.

Neighbors also gave an account to Lewis' strange behavior before he was found dead. Prior to Lewis' death, he had jumped over the fence to attack his neighbor and a painter who was painting in the backyard.

The LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said, "At some point, Johnny jumped or fell from the home's roof, garage, balcony, stairs or patio area."

It is also suspected that Lewis was high on the "Smiles" drug that caused him to act strange and psychedelic. The autopsy results will be able to provide more information on the cause of his death.

"It's a terrible tragedy," Commander Smith said.

It was also made known that Lewis was barely released from jail before the attack. He was put behind bars for assault with a deadly weapon, the Global Grind reported. He also got into trouble for burglary earlier this year. It seemed like the road that Lewis was taking was already smelling of trouble for some time.

Ex girlfriend Perry was reportedly "devastated" to hear the news that her ex lover had died in such a tragic way.  A source told US Weekly that Perry enjoyed their times together in 2005 and 2006, however she saw that the actor was "trouble" and "had to separate from him . . . to get ahead and focus on her career."

"It's really sad.  She could never help him and couldn't [let herself] go in that direction," the source added.

Lewis' full name was Jonathan Kendrick Lewis and he was best known for his playing the character Kip Epps in the US TV series Sons of Anarchy.
