The Boston Red Sox face off against longtime rivals the New York Yankees on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7:05 p.m. E.T. at Yankee Stadium. While this may be the final 2012 regular season game for both MLB teams, it is a very important battle for the Yanks in regards to the postseason.

The Yankees are currently the no 1 team in the AL East. If they beat the Sox, the Yanks will enter the playoffs as 12-time division champs in the last 15 years. The Bombers would also secure the AL's best record, guaranteeing home field advantage once the World Series rolls around. However, if the Yanks lose and the no 2 AL East team the Baltimore Orioles win against Tampa Bay, those two teams will face off in a one-game playoff in Baltimore. The winner of that ballgame would then play against the loser of the Texas Rangers-Oakland Athletics game on Friday. So tune in for Wednesday night's Yanks vs. Sox game to see what happens!
